Frequently asked questions
How caffeine is rated, what is in a blend, and what happens after you order. Our Shipping & Returns and Allergen & Ingredient Information pages carry the full detail — where this page and a policy differ, the policy is the one that governs.
Caffeine
How do you rate caffeine?
We rate caffeine against a cup of coffee, not against other teas. That is why even a strong black tea reads medium-low — because it is, next to what most people drink in the morning.
These are typical ranges for comparison, not measurements. Your cup depends on how much you use, how hot the water is and how long you steep it — and a blend's caffeine depends on how much tea is in the blend. This is a general guide, not medical advice.
| Per 6 oz cup | Caffeine | Our rating |
|---|---|---|
| Herbs, flowers, fruit and spices | None | Caffeine free |
| Green and white tea | 15–35 mg | Very low |
| Black tea | 35–60 mg | Medium-low |
| Matcha (2 g whisked) | 60–70 mg | Medium |
| Espresso (single shot) (for comparison; not sold here) | 60–75 mg | Medium |
| Hot brewed coffee (drip) (for comparison; not sold here) | 70–100 mg | Medium-high |
| Cold brew coffee (for comparison; not sold here) | 90–120 mg | High |
| Espresso (double shot) (for comparison; not sold here) | 120–150 mg | Extremely high |
Drinks in bold are ones you can build here. The coffees are for comparison — nothing in our library is rated above medium. Espresso is measured as a shot served in a 6 oz cup, so it can be compared with the rest.
Is anything here caffeine free?
Yes — herbs, flowers, fruits and spices carry no caffeine, and they are labelled Caffeine free on the ingredient card. Every true tea contains some, including green and white. Decaffeinated tea is not caffeine free either: a trace remains.
Building your blend
How does it work?
Choose a size, pick your ingredients and set what share of the blend each one takes, then choose how you would like it packaged. You will see the price before you pay. We make the blend to your recipe after you order — nothing is sitting on a shelf waiting.
How many ingredients can I use?
Between one and five, and the percentages have to add up to 100%. You can set each share to the nearest whole percent, or press Split evenly and adjust from there.
What sizes do you offer?
Four, from a small sample upward: 14 g (about 7 servings), 50 g (about 25), 150 g (about 75) and 500 g (about 250). The builder shows the price per serving beside the total, which is usually the easiest way to compare them.
Do I need an account to order?
No. You can build a blend and check out as a guest. If you create an account later using the same email address, your earlier orders are attached to it automatically.
Ingredients
Are your ingredients organic?
Some are. Each ingredient is marked Organic or Conventional as you choose it, and your blend summary shows what share of the finished blend is organic by weight. We do not describe a finished blend itself as organic.
I have a food allergy — what do I need to know?
Read our Allergen & Ingredient Information before you order. The short version: blends are made to order on shared equipment in a facility that also handles common allergens, and they are not suitable for anyone with a severe or life-threatening allergy. Allergen information for each ingredient is shown on its card as you build.
Orders and delivery
How long until my order ships?
Because each blend is made to your recipe after you order, allow up to about three weeks before it ships. We email you when it is on its way.
Where do you ship?
Within the United States only, for now. A flat shipping fee is shown at checkout before you pay, and delivery time after dispatch depends on the carrier and where you are.
Can I change or cancel an order?
Usually only before we start making it — email us with your order number as soon as you can and we will do our best. Once production has begun an order generally cannot be cancelled. See Shipping & Returns.
Can I return a blend?
Because it is custom food made to your recipe, all sales are final — we cannot take a blend back because the flavour was not to your taste. If an order arrives damaged, defective or not what you ordered, we will remake it or refund it. Email us within the window set out in Shipping & Returns.
For businesses
Do you make blends for businesses?
Yes. We produce custom blends at commercial volumes in finished retail formats — tea bags, pouches, cartons and more. You can choose a format and configure it on our Commercialize pages, or email us and we will help you work out what fits.
What packaging does my order come in?
Your price includes the production site's standard packaging for the format you choose — the printed carton, envelope or tag, plus the shipping cases and pallet. After your deposit we send you digital samples so you can see exactly what it looks like.
Can I use my own packaging design?
Yes — it's entirely your choice. After your deposit we send you the dielines (print templates) for your format. You arrange and pay for printing, and for delivery of your packaging to the production site, including transport, import duties and customs. The site may ask for a small extra quantity to cover machine set-up, and we'll tell you how much for your order. The site then sends you a digital proof, including the label content, for your written sign-off. Production begins once all of your packaging has arrived, so using your own design extends the timeline.
How does using my own packaging change my price?
We credit you for the standard printed packaging you're replacing, against your final balance. Import duty and tariff are then recalculated to include the value of your packaging, so depending on what it costs, your final balance may go down or up. We confirm the exact figure before your balance invoice is sent.
